Pastor Forrest Keener
Oklahoma Baptist Minister and Writer

      Forrest Keener was born August 23, 1933 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Joseph L. and Mary E. (Bourland) Keener. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 16 and achieved the rank of Corporal and was discharged in 1951. He married Mary F. Weatherly on October 31, 1953 at Okemah.

      Dr. Keener surrendered to the ministry in 1959 and served as the pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Lawton for 43 years. He published the "Watchman", a publication that had sermons and other doctrinal articles that he had written; it was sent to readers all over the world. Following his retirement he continued his ministry serving as an evangelist across the United States. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Lawton and at the time of his death the Sherwood Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

      He enjoyed music, played many instruments and sang hymns individually in special church services. He wrote and published through his church's printing press, many short books on Bible subjects: Careful Studies in Romans, Major Bible Events in the Old Testament, Major Bible Events in the New Testament. The Old and New Testment books are each 52 chapters that can be used in Sunday School for a year of lessons. There are other study books available though the Bethel Baptist Church, Lawton, Ok.

      Pastor Keener died June 18, 2013 at his residence after a long struggle against throat cancer. He is buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Lawton.
