Campbell County Association
By Rev. Amos Stout,
The Baptist Argus, 1898
      Dear Brother Editor:

I thought the happenings in this part of our State might be of interest to the readers of the ARGUS.

The Campbell County Association met August 24 with the Licking Baptist church at Cold Springs [Spring], Ky. Bro. J. M. Jolly, who will soon be eighty-one years of age, was unanimously and heartily elected moderator and served with a vigor and efficiency remarkable for one of his years. He has held this position, for about twenty-five years.

The association was not largely attended but the session was very pleasant and we trust very profitable.

It was a matter of regret that the new Bishop of our church at Dayton, Bro. A. J. Ramsey, was compelled to be absent on account of sickness. A number of his flock were present and they had many good things to say abont him, and they feel hopeful as to the future.

On Sunday, August 28, Bro. E. A. Howard, a member of the Baptist church at Berry, Ky., was ordained to the Gospel ministry at that place.

The following brethren were present from sister churches to assist in the work: Elders Partee, Griffin, Marksbury, Burgess and Stout with our lay brethren Peck, Collins, Hanna and Ecklor. Bro. Burgess was chosen chairman of the council and Bro. J. W. Peck Sec'y.

The candidate gave his Christian experience and call to the ministry after which he was examined as to his views of the doctrines and practices of the Baptist church of Christ. His examination having proved satisfactory, it was unanimously voted that he be ordained. The council then adjourned to meet at 7:30 p.m. to complete its work.

At the evening session Bro. Marksbury preached the sermon, Bro. Burgess gave the charge to the candidate and the writer presented the Bible. Brethren Griffin and Partee could not be present. The benediction was pronounced by the candidate.

It is to us a cause of profound gratitude that God has called our brother to the ministry and we feel justified in hoping for him a career of great usefulness.

He spent the latter part of last session in our Seminary and expects to return there the first of October.
Berry, Ky.
