Organization of a Colored Baptist Association
Sardis, Mississippi
The Baptist newspaper, 1870
On Friday before the first Sabbath in August last, the committee appointed by the Cold Water Association, consisting of Elds. E.D. Miller, E. W. Henderson, F. W. Lipsy, Wm. Wooten, and Breth. T. H. Smith and E. M. Parks, met the messengers, appointed by the colored churches within our bounds, at the Sardis Baptist Church, and organized them into an association to be known as the Sardis Missionary Baptist Association. There were twenty-five churches represented, Containing a membership of about 1500. This body promises at an early day to be very large and influential. Nearly all the churches have colored pastors, who seem to be anxious to receive instruction from their white brethren.

The next Association will be held with the Chulahoma Church, Marshall county, commencing on Friday before the first Sabbath in August, 1871.

On a permanent organization, Eld. E. D. Miller was chosen Moderator, and Eld. E. W. Henderson, Clerk.

E. W. Henderson.
Sardis, Miss., Sept. 19, 1870.
